In the last few generations, the roles of Chinese mothers have undergone a dramatic transformation in the Chinese communities in the United States. Many of these changes were the result of complex interactions between cultural, political and sociological factors. In general, Chinese mothers come from one of these types of families: traditional families, transitional families and acculturated families.
