Assessment & Treatment
Evelyn Lee began working with refugee families as a young social worker. After coming to the United States, she developed the assessment and treatment of Asian American immigrant families. Two chapters in her book Working with Asian Americans: A Guide for Clinicians (1997) best summarizes her approach in working with these families. The second chapter is devoted to Chinese American families. The third chapter from the book "Chinese Buddhism: Its Implications for Counseling" was written with her colleague and mentor in Buddhism, Dr. Wing Yeung, a psychiatrist.
Use of Interpreters
After working with many immigrant families, Evelyn Lee became aware of the nuances and pitfalls of working with interpreters in the mental health field. In this chapter, she details how to use trained interpreters in this sensitive and emotional setting.
